Weddings can feel like a lot of planning, the truth is they are… but that doesn’t mean they should be stressful. As wedding photographers we attend a fair number every year! So we thought we would share some of our wedding day recommendations, because sharing is caring right?

Timeline for guests, having a timeline is great for us! This is why we ask you to provide us with as much detail as possible, it allows us to know what is happening when and where, this is also helpful to your guests. There are many creative ways to provide everyone with a visual plan of your day, you can put your own twist on it and make it unique to your wedding.

Unplugged ceremony, whether your guests are able to take photos of you during your ceremony is completely up to you! It’s your day, however if you do choose to have an unplugged ceremony we recommend that this is announced beforehand or that you display a sign stating that you have decided to ask your guests to refrain from taking their photos throughout the ceremony. Why do we recommend this? We want to capture your guests enjoying your day as much as possible and being in the moment, you have invited them to your wedding because they are a part of your life. We also feel that phones can be a bit distracting in photos and sometimes get in the way, however this is completely your choice and we will respect that if you choose to allow your guests to take their own photos during your ceremony.

We highly recommend Foxy and Peach Illustrations/Live Event Illustrator for Personalised wedding signs and designs!

A well planned photo list, we love capturing all the natural moments that unfold throughout your day, we love the real photos that tell the story of your wedding. However it’s also important to us that we work with you to build a list of your ‘VIP’ photos. This will include any formal family photos if you wish to have them. Of course this list is fluid however it’s great for us to have a point of reference when it comes to your important shots, so we know who is who. A well planned photo list also allows us to work quickly because let's be honest people do not like standing around for photos. The quicker we can get organised the better, we also find it super helpful if a member of the bridal party or a groomsman can help us! The best time to take your formal family and guest photos is after your ceremony but before everyone sits down for food, we recommend calling all guests for a group photo and then taking the rest straight after before guests leave to get to the bar or find their seat if possible depending on where you would like your photos taken.

Confetti & bubbles, we love confetti it’s a great way to get fun and colourful photos of your celebration. We will work with your guests to ensure that everyone has instructions on when and where to throw it! We recommend if you are having confetti the more the better, confetti cannons and bubbles can also be fun! As you are having your confetti photos you might be tempted to put your head down as instinct… because of course you are having something thrown in your direction! However it’s better for your photos if you look at your partner or keep your head up so we can see the excitement and joy on your face. This is also a great time to stop and kiss your partner and enjoy being in the moment surrounded by your friends and family, so take your time.

See through umbrellas, because sometimes it rains… which we get isn’t always ideal! however these umbrellas are great for photos because firstly as they are see through we can still get fantastic photos but also they do not distract in photos so your colour theme and style isn’t compromised, we recommend buying a few in bulk if possible just in case. It’s always better to have them and not need them!

Long handle sparklers, sparklers are great fun! If you are thinking about having them at your wedding we recommend long handle ones if possible, these stay alight for longer and are also safer, however we also recommend that if you want to use sparklers in photos you also think about any potential risks. We recommend having a bucket readily available so that guests can dispose of any used sparklers quickly and easily. The same advice goes for Smoke bombs etc. Preparation is key for safety and creativity, we will plan these images with you before hand.

We work with our brides and grooms beforehand to ensure we have a solid wedding day action plan, we gather all the information we need with a questionnaire but we also meet in person at your venue before your wedding day if possible to walk around, discuss your ideas, talk about photo opportunities and your preferences. If you would like to discuss hiring us for your upcoming wedding please reach out as we would love to chat!
